Bridging

I just watched what I think is an important TED talk. It talks about the need for bridges, people who can cross two cultures and bring people and ideas together. I think it has important implications for education. What do you think?

Computers at Home: Educational Hope vs. Teenage Reality

Do computers and broadband at home negatively effect learning of middle school students? This article from the NYT suggests that this happens. They look at three different studies; one in Romania, one in North Carolina and one in Texas.  Here is a quote:

"The North Carolina study suggests the disconcerting possibility that home computers and Internet access have such a negative effect only on some groups and end up widening achievement gaps between socioeconomic groups."
